Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) is a minimally invasive fertility treatment that involves placing specially prepared sperm directly into the uterus around the time of ovulation. This procedure enhances the chances of conception by reducing the distance sperm must travel and bypassing potential barriers in the cervix. IUI is often the first line of treatment for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility, or cervical mucus issues.
At our fertility center, we perform IUI with the highest standards of care and precision. The procedure involves collecting a sperm sample, which is then washed and concentrated in our laboratory to select the healthiest, most motile sperm. This prepared sperm is then gently inserted into the uterus using a thin, flexible catheter, a quick and virtually painless procedure that takes only a few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions About Intrauterine Insemination (IUI)
Find answers to the most commonly asked questions about IUI treatment, the procedure process, success rates, and what to expect during your IUI cycle.
IUI is typically recommended for couples with unexplained infertility, mild male factor infertility (low sperm count or motility), cervical mucus problems, ovulation disorders, or those using donor sperm. It may also be an option for same-sex female couples and single women. Your fertility specialist will evaluate your specific situation to determine if IUI is the right treatment for you.
The success rate of IUI varies depending on factors such as age, underlying fertility diagnosis, and whether ovulation induction is used. On average, IUI success rates range from 10-20% per cycle for women under 35. Success rates may be higher when combined with ovulation induction medications. Most couples achieve pregnancy within 3-6 IUI cycles, and your specialist will discuss realistic expectations based on your individual profile.
The IUI procedure is generally quick and virtually painless. You may experience mild cramping similar to menstrual cramps during the procedure, which typically resolves within a few minutes. The entire procedure takes about 5-10 minutes and is performed in our comfortable clinical setting. Our team ensures you are relaxed and comfortable throughout the process.
After your IUI procedure, we recommend resting for 10-15 minutes before resuming normal activities. You can return to your regular routine the same day. We advise avoiding strenuous exercise, heavy lifting, and sexual intercourse for 24-48 hours. Your fertility specialist may prescribe progesterone supplements to support the luteal phase. You can take a pregnancy test approximately 14 days after the procedure.
